Cadet Training

Use the links below to learn about the training given to each cadet as they progress through classifications.

Recruits

When you first join the ATC, you will be a probationer. This period usually lasts for around three months as you attend an induction course and are then given your uniform.

No Badge

Second Class Cadet

Soon after you receive your uniform you will be enrolled and become a second class cadet. There is no badge for this classification but you will begin training for your First Class Cadet badge as soon as possible.

No Badge

First Class Cadet

Once you have completed the course and passed a simple test you will be awarded your First Class Cadet training certificate and badge. The badge depicts a four pointed star and is worn on your brassard which forms part of your uniform. As a first class cadet you will now be eligible to go to  UK camp, flying, gliding, shooting and sports.

Leading Cadet

Once you have completed your training and passed the tests, you will be awarded your Leading cadet classification certificate and badge. The badge depicts a propeller and is worn on your brassard. As a leading cadet you will now be eligible to attend overseas camps.

Senior Cadet

Once you have completed your training and passed the tests, you will be awarded your Senior cadet training classification certificate and badge. the badge depicts a propeller over a four pointed star and is worn on your brassard.

Staff Cadet

In addition to this you will also have to pass an oral examination by your wing training officer based on how the ACO is run and your ability to teach classes, passing on your knowledge to the younger cadets.

Once you have completed your training and passed the tests, you will be awarded your Staff cadet training certificate and lanyard, which is worn over your left shoulder on your uniform.

Citizenship Training

This training area should help to raise the status of ATC units in their local community by a positive contribution by cadets and should give cadets an awareness of community problems.
